Mystic of Inner Silence
"Stand still and listen for the still, small voice."
Joel S. Goldsmith was born in New York City in 1892. Raised in a secular Jewish family, his life took a radical turn after witnessing the miraculous healing of his father through spiritual means. This event led him into a deep exploration of metaphysics, healing, and the mystical traditions that would later become the foundation of The Infinite Way.
Goldsmith’s teachings emerged from direct spiritual experience rather than formal doctrine. He emphasized conscious union with God, teaching that spiritual realization comes not through thought or effort, but through silence, receptivity, and inner stillness. His work bridges Christianity, Eastern mysticism, and non-dual awareness.
The central message of Joel’s work is this: God is individual consciousness. There is no separation between God and man, and no power outside of divine Presence. Healing, supply, and peace unfold naturally when we enter conscious communion with the Infinite and live from that center.
Goldsmith rejected the notion of dual powers—good vs. evil, sickness vs. health. He taught that God is the only presence and power, and appearances of lack, illness, or fear are illusions of the material sense. Salvation is not something earned, but revealed—through inner stillness and spiritual discernment.
“The Practice of Silence” — Joel taught a contemplative discipline of quieting the mind and listening inwardly for the still small voice. This isn’t prayer as petition, but prayer as receptivity. In silence, one becomes aware of God’s presence—not as a concept, but as living reality.
Depression, Joel taught, is not the presence of darkness but the absence of realized light. Inward communion with God restores the awareness that joy is not circumstantial—it is spiritual and eternal.
He taught that anxiety stems from trusting appearances. "The Lord is my Shepherd" becomes real when we turn within and touch the invisible Source that governs all being.
Fear dissolves in the presence of realized truth. "Do not fight error," he said. "Stand still, and the Spirit will dissolve it." Control is replaced with surrender to the One intelligence operating the universe.
Joel taught that life is not material, and so no one truly dies. Consciousness is eternal. Through silence, one can still feel the presence of loved ones beyond the veil of senses.
Forgiveness is natural when the sense of a personal “self” dissolves. “There is no one to forgive,” Joel said, “for there is only the Christ appearing as man.” In oneness, blame vanishes.
Joel rejected “manifestation” as a goal. Instead, he taught that supply is spiritual, not material. When one abides in the awareness of God, needs dissolve—not by effort, but by grace.
“Seek ye first the kingdom,” he taught. Your true work is not what you do, but what you express. As consciousness unfolds, your outward activity aligns naturally with your spiritual purpose.
Abundance is not about things—it is about being. Goldsmith redefined prosperity as the fruit of a realized Presence. When you live from inner fullness, the outer takes care of itself.
Joel taught that love is not given or received—it is realized. When you touch the God within yourself and others, all relationship becomes sacred. The need to be loved fades in the light of Oneness.
Personal loss becomes a sacred opportunity. "Let go of personal sense," he said. "See the Christ where the person seemed to be." What you lose in form, you regain in Spirit.
There is no “you” apart from God. As personal ego dissolves, true identity is revealed: a divine expression of Infinite Life. Confidence isn’t built—it is remembered.
Joel gently turned seekers away from seeking. “You already have it,” he said. The search ends in stillness. The mystical path is not to find God, but to stop running from your own center.
The silence within is the holy ground where healing, guidance, and grace flow. "Be still, and know" was not poetry to him—it was the method.
The world is mesmerism, he taught. The truth is always present—but hidden by the mind’s noise. Turn within, listen, and the secret will reveal itself: You are already That.
